Remote Working

One of the best things about remote working is that I could work from anywhere.

Today I was at a study area / cafe that offers good Internet and decent workspaces.

This is something I do from time to time. A change of location is a great way to keep my productivity up.

It's a great bonus that they also offer unlimited brewed coffee for a very reasonable rate.

That's pretty much everything I need to get to work.

I've Got Everything I Need For Valentine's Day

My girlfriend surprised me with my favorite coffee.

If you really know me, coffee is everything. Plus, this was given by someone who means everything me.

That is my kind of Valentine's day. Me and my girlfriend have each other already. No need for fancy stuff and things.

It's the simple and essential things that make us both happy.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Cheap Coffee

Me and my girlfriend are trying out something new this year.

We will be spending less money as much as possible on our dates.

To do that, we have to be really creative to keep our date nights fun without spending much.

One of those ideas is replacing Starbucks coffee with Dunkin Donuts coffee.

Having a new type of brewed coffee takes some getting used to.

But, I don't mind that since we're saving so much money doing this.

I'm having fun doing this challenge so far. I'm also excited to be saving more money this 2017.

Why I Keep Coming Back to Starbucks

Earlier tonight, I was at Starbucks -- like I have always been.

It felt like the usual coffee night. But, one thing hit me.

I suddenly realized why I keep coming back to this fancy coffee shop.

It's not even about the red eye drink which is my favorite.

It's not even about the free grande drink every after 12 stars.

It's about the experience.

I've been a regular customer ever since Starbucks came to our city. I'm a coffee addict by the way so no surprise there.

When I arrive at Starbucks, the baristas greet me.

They are my friends now. They treat me really well. It has come to a point where I don't even mention my drink. They just craft it the moment they see me.

I don't even have to claim my drink at the counter. They serve it to me at my table -- sometimes.

This may be weird. But, I feel like they're my family (or at least just my close friends). These baristas call me by my first name and ask me how I'm doing and at the same time chat about personal stuff.

On top of all these, I love the coffee shop ambience as well as the free wi-fi. It's such a convenient place to work away from home.

This may be just a Starbucks protocol for regular customers. But, it certainly works well. And, it keeps me coming back for more.

Well done, Howard Schultz.

The Latte Factor

It's Christmas season here in the Philippines and Starbucks is back with its limited edition planners. People are on a frenzy collecting stickers from their Starbucks drinks just to get that planner.

I am one of those people. I am an avid coffee drinker as some of you may know.

However, as I was reading Fitz Villafuerte's blog on "Why Pinoys Spend So Much To Get The Starbucks Planner That They’ll Never Use Anyway," I learned of the Latte Factor and how it is actually affecting me in a way.

The Latte Factor is a term popularized by David Bach which symbolizes the high cost of small, periodic spending. For instance, you spend 150 pesos for a coffee in Starbucks. That may seem like an average expense. But, if you drink coffee at Starbucks once a week then you are actually spending 7,800 pesos for coffee every year!

Isn't that shocking? That is a lot of money for coffee. And, I am guilty of this.

If you come to think about that, that money could have gone elsewhere. Maybe into a savings account or better yet into a good investment. And now you are still wondering why it is so hard to save money? The latte factor might be the culprit.

When I reviewed my expenses, I guess I definitely would need to cut down on some things which are not really that necessary.

For instance, right now I am actually thinking twice if I would still continue my Spotify subscription. That actually costs me around 130 pesos per month. The "music lover" in me is definitely against canceling it. But, 1,560 pesos per year is already a good amount of money to save.

Oh well. Now that 2014 is about to end, maybe it is time to reconsider my priorities. It's time I save up (or invest) for the future and not just waste my money on things that I really would not need. Maybe you should too.

Thank you Sir Fitz for your financial wisdom. It is something we all need.

And oh by the way... I just got my Starbucks Planner for this year. I've been racking up on stickers before I've known The Latte Factor. So yeah. Next year might be a different story. :)

My girlfriend loves planners anyway. She can put this to good use.
