Is Yakimix worth it?

This eat and grill all you can restaurant has finally opened up its doors here in Cagayan de Oro city.

But for 599 pesos, is it actually worth it?  Would you spend that much for a meal?

Here is the breakdown of the rates:

  • 499 for lunch (except for public holidays and weekends)
  • 599 for dinner
  • 299 for Children below 4 feet
  • Children below 3 feet are FREE
  • When it's your birth month, bring 3 friends with you and you won't pay anything.

The last one is what I think most people take advantage of.

We went there for that reason. It was my girlfriend and her mother's birth month. We got a discount for the total price.

The food selection was great. Ambience is nice. Grilling is fun. Plus, they get to do this dance when it's your birthday:

But to answer the question of whether it's worth it or not -- it really depends on the person's appetite. :)

For me, it was not worth it.

I don't eat that much. I could stay there for 3 hours and still eat just 300 pesos worth of food. That's just too much money to shed on one meal.

For other people who have a bigger appetite, they can devour all they want. That 600 pesos will be very much worth it. They don't run out of food.

In the end, it's another great addition to the fancy lineup of restaurants in our ever developing city.

Affordable and Cozy Workspace in Cagayan de Oro

Digital nomads and remote workers like me love to hangout in places where we can just chill and do our work.

Working "from home" may be ideal. But, if you have been working "at home" for years, a change in scenery is always something you look forward to.

That is why I prefer working outside of the house every now and then.

I used to just go to coffee shops. Fortunately, Cagayan de Oro City has now started integrating workspaces inside of coffee shops -- just like what Cuppa Workspace did.

Located in J. Seriña Street, it is a coffee shop and workspace in one.

For 25 pesos an hour, you'd get all these:

  • A hight speed Internet connection (a must!)
  • Free brewed coffee
  • A dedicated cubicle
  • Unlimited charging
  • Unlimited water
Totally cool and affordable! It seriously can't get any better than that. I'm a cheapskate so I wouldn't pay for really expensive monthly fees on those coworking spaces.

When I'm not at home working, I'm probably here. It's an ideal haven for remote workers like me.

Cagayan de Oro Has A New Study Nook, And It's Awesome

I consider myself a digital nomad.

Though I don't really travel from one country to another, I enjoy working remotely in restaurants, coffee shops and wherever there is Internet connection.

As of this writing, Cagayan de Oro has no co-working space yet. I've always wanted to be a member of one. It's like the haven of remote workers.

Enter Study Nook.

It's Cagayan de Oro's newest place for students who want to study in silence and comfort.

For 25 pesos for the first hour and 20 pesos for each succeeding hour, you get a dedicated table, a complimentary coffee and a decent wifi. This is an incredibly affordable rate.

The place is posh and it is the closest thing to a co-working space that I could have at the moment.

It's pretty awesome. In the 4 hours that I tested the place, I was able to do more work. I also enjoyed the silence. It's a breath of fresh air from all the noise I encounter when I work at home.

I'm so glad to have something like Study Nook at the heart of Cagayan de Oro City. I now have a go-to place for working remotely on a tight budget. The place is insanely cheap compared to the coffee shops I frequent on.

I hope this idea becomes successful and will pave way to full co-working spaces here in the city.

I'd be a really happy digital nomad when that time comes.

UPDATE:

Study Nook just closed it doors. In their Facebook page, they said it is because of the "high economy."

I respect and understand that. The news just makes me sad. I loved the place and I had some good memories in there.

Whatever they decide on, I'm sure it is for the best though.

Moviefy Home Theatre & KTV in Cagayan de Oro

It seems like private movie houses are getting more popular here in Cagayan de Oro City.

A few months ago, I posted about my experience in Stargaze and how I loved the place. It was the first private movie house here in the city.

Fast forward to today, we already have three.

A few weeks ago, we got the chance to try out Moviefy at Tomas Saco street.

It was awesome. I must say it was the kind of private movie house experience I was looking for. I loved every bit of it. Sorry Stargaze.

The owner himself was very accommodating. The place is cozy and well set up. Plus, the movie quality is really good. A big plus. It’s well worth the 300 pesos (minimum) per movie.

If you are a movie lover and you love watching movies in private, you definitely need to check the place out.
