The new iPod Nano and iPod Touch

Today’s Apple September Media Event was not just all about the iPhone 5. As some of the rumors pointed out weeks ago, we were supposed to be getting new iPods too -- and we did. Two of the iPod lines were given a cool new refresh. The iPod Nano just got a little taller and sexier while the iPod Touch was updated to make it more like a stripped down version of the new iPhone 5. Here are the updates:

The new iPod Nano

Apple iPod Nano New

The new Nano has become better in a lot of ways. Though it's not running on iOS, this iPod for casual music listeners (and joggers) out there now comes on a 2.5 inch multi touch display. That extra space is great for viewing all its built-in apps especially Music and Videos (yes, it can now play videos unlike the previous model). It's 5.4mm thin (about the size of a credit card) and it comes in these fancy colors you would surely love.

Apple's New iPod Nano with Radio and BluetoothIt also comes with Bluetooth so you can easily pair it with Bluetooth headsets and accessories for wireless music playing. This is a long requested feature of the Nano fanatics and it's finally here! Aside from that, you still have your usual FM radio and Nike Fitness Apps.

The New iPod Touch

New Apple iPod Touch in Different Colors

As it always has been, the iPod Touch is just a stripped down version of the iPhone. Steve Jobs once called it "the iPhone without a contract." So, since the iPhone just got a cool new refresh, so should this trusty iPod - the best music player and mobile gaming device out there.

I'd like to think of it as the iPhone without a Phone. It basically sports the same features of a 'phone-less' iPhone 5 except with minor differences. It was updated to have the new aluminum body design (in different colors this time!) and the brilliant 4-inch Retina Display. The iSight camera is now 5MP (with LED flash) and can shoot 1080p HD video (the previous camera really sucked by the way). It is now also using the dual core A5 chip so expect it to be much faster and snappier.

iPod Touch Loop Apple AccessoriesOne notable new feature of the iPod Touch though is the iPod Touch loop. Apple is clearly trying to make it to the point-and-shoot digital camera market. It functions like that of a digital camera's strap (or handle or whatever you call it.) It prevents the iPod to slip off your hands and it's clearly for those who want to use the device for taking pictures (you know the camwhores, vain people, etc). Mind you, there are a lot of those casual photographers out there. Will the iPod Touch rock the whole point and shoot industry? We have yet to see that. After all, its camera is a really good one already.

The iPod Shuffle on the other hand, didn't get an upgrade. There's nothing much to upgrade with it at the moment I guess.

Anyway, the iPod line is getting better and will still get better in the coming years. I love these new improvements and it's so great to see how the iPod has improved for the last 11 years.
